‘Christmas Carol Extravaganza’ to feature three musical groups
At 6 p.m. on Friday, December 21, Gloucester Arts on Main will feature a “Christmas Carol Extravaganza.” Two groups will be featured, the “Quarter Notes,” a quartet from Richmond, and the Gloucester High School “Select Ensemble” and “Select Woman’s Ensemble.”
The Quarter Notes vocal quartet is a group of experienced singers based in Lancaster County. The group is directed by Dennis Tucker. The appearance of the group at Gloucester Arts on Main will be a Victorian Christmas event presented in 19th-century attire.
The Gloucester High School Select and Woman’s Select Ensembles have established outstanding musical traditions nationally and locally. The Select Ensemble is an 11-member group of young men and women who are accepted by audition only and follow the tradition of past groups who have won Grand Champion Choir at music festivals at Orlando, Myrtle Beach and Toronto, Canada.
The Select Woman’s Ensemble is a group of 11 young women selected by audition who also follow a tradition of outstanding musical performances in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, as well as collaborating with renowned composer Stephen Hartfield at Stanford University.
These two Ensembles are under the direction of Greta Reed who is celebrating her 8th year at Gloucester High School.
