Buyboats to gather in Urbanna

Buyboats will return to the Urbanna Town Marina at Upton’s Point on Friday and Saturday, July 31-August 1, for the Fifth Annual Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Homecoming.

The Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Association is comprised of owners of the remaining buyboats who, at their own expense, try to bring the boats to ports around the Bay each summer so the public can visit them and understand their importance in Bay history. Urbanna is the port that brought the buyboats together and started this unique adventure.

Event officials hope to have at least 12 buyboats and about 10 other historic Bay vessels at the marina for the homecoming.

Boats will be open for the public to board until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 1. Boats will depart the morning of Sunday, August 2.

Many sponsorship and promotional opportunities are available to local businesses. Call Bill Hight at 758-5300 for sponsorship information, and Vera England at 758-2721  to include items in gift bags for the crews of the vessels.
