Legendary singer and musician Sherman Holmes of Christchurch and the singing group Ingramettes performed at the Deltaville Maritime Museum last Saturday evening. At the event, Jon Lohman, Virginia State Folklorist and Director of the Virginia Folklife Program, announced that Holmes and the Ingramettes will be performing on a 10-day tour starting the middle of May in the countries of Serbia and Bulgaria. Holmes is the last surviving member of the “Holmes Brothers,” an internationally known singing group. Brothers Sherman and Wendell Holmes grew up in Middlesex County, graduated from St. Clare Walker High School. Sherman said the St. Clare Walker music and band programs were major inspirations in their pursuit of music careers. (Photo by Larry Chowning)
