Barn Quilt Trail of Middlesex begins

A little over a year ago several members of the Stingray Stitchers Quilt Guild in Deltaville (Kathleen Garrison, Jan Boyd, Alveta Scott, Leslie Foster, Jean Holt and Jacqueline Kent) were inspired by a speaker at one of their meetings regarding Barn Quilt Trails. Suzi Parron has written three books covering the history of Barn Quilt Trails, including pictures of various trails throughout the United States and Canada, and the stories the barn quilts tell.

The group in Deltaville wanted to create a Barn Quilt Trail in Middlesex County—to help promote the heritage of quilting in the county while representing various treasures found in Middlesex. “What fun it would be to follow a trail through the county, not only to find the painted quilt blocks, but to also really see our beautiful county and all it has to offer!” said a guild member.

After much study and discussion, the group has been able to forge a partnership with the Deltaville Maritime Museum to grow this idea into reality.

The guild will be set up on Community Row at the Holly Point Market this Saturday, June 23. “We welcome all questions and will have order forms for those who may wish to have a barn quilt made for themselves,” said the spokesperson.

The cost of the block is to cover the materials, with the remainder being a donation to the Deltaville Maritime Museum.

Contact the guild by email at barnquilttrailofmiddlesex@gmail.com.
