‘ABC’s from the Rappahannock’ book signing due at Oyster Festival
Author Betty Lewis Ellett will sign her book, “ABC’s from the Rappahannock River, With Love,” during both days of the Urbanna Oyster Festival. Ellett will sign and sell her book in the Middlesex Woman’s Club on Virginia Street on Friday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Saturday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ellett’s new colorful book takes a child on a journey through the alphabet for an introduction to the beauty and life of the Rappahannock River.
In her book, the letter “U” is for “Urbanna.” She explains how the town has a year-around population of less than 1,000, and has held the Urbanna Oyster Festival for over 50 years. Ellett elaborates on how the natural oyster crop has been reduced by pollution and disease, and how the oyster shell is “the Virginia state shell.”
“ABCs” is geared towards pre-readers, early readers, and elementary school students. The wildlife and landscape of the Rappahannock come alive for children through the descriptions of one of America’s greatest natural resources.
A long-time educator, Ellett is an artist, photographer and family literary specialist. Ellett invites readers and the children in their life to “snuggle up” and enjoy this reading adventure.
