Halloween at Holly Point

Children race into the haunted forest where some really frightening exhibits awaited at Holly Point Nature Park last Saturday in Deltaville. Now in its third year, Halloween in the Park attracted hundreds of costumed children and adults.

HVFD awarded grant
This year, the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department has received funding from the Virginia Department of Forestry’s Volunteer Fire Assistance Program. The purpose of this program is to increase the wildland fire protection capability in Virginia, using federal pass-through funding from the U.S. Forest Service.

‘Ride for Red’ nets $700 for regional Red Cross

The weather was threatening but the motorcyclists showed up for a charity Poker Run, titled "Ride for Red," to benefit the River Counties Red Cross last Saturday. Starting at the Kilmarnock Farmers' Market, the tour of the Northern Neck passed through Lancaster, Richmond and Northumberland counties.

Urbanna Oyster Festival countdown begins
The 52nd annual Urbanna Oyster Festival is set for Friday and Saturday, November 6-7, and once again good times and a variety of delicious food and lively music are planned for the tens of thousands of expected festival-goers.
