Heavy rains put farming on hold
During the first 9 days of May, more than 4.2 inches of rain fell on Middlesex County, said Middlesex Extension Agent David Moore. Recent downpours brought yearly rain totals through May 9 to 16.5 inches—nearly half of the total rain for all of 2007, when just 35.2 inches was measured at Saluda.
Big band tunes coming to Taber Park Saturday
The first “Music Under the Stars” concert of the season in Urbanna this Saturday, May 16, in Taber Park will feature a program of big band music. Jan Williams and “The Little Big Band,” a trio of musicians, will perform favorite standards, big band, and swing music from the 1920s through the 2000s.
YMCA offers youth activities at summer day camp
Registration for Middlesex YMCA Summer Day Camp is now open and many youths already have signed up. Unlike past years, the YMCA will provide transportation to the western end of the county this summer. Each morning the YMCA bus will pick up campers at Food Lion in Saluda and bring them to the camp at the YMCA facility in Hartfield.
Boy Scout Troop 341 tours Capitol
Members of Boy Scout Troop 341 visited Richmond as part of their “Citizenship in the Nation” merit badge, one of the 12 Eagle-required merit badges.
