Kim Lemon helps raise $6.8 million to fight cancer
Former Redskinette Kim Lemon of Urbanna, Virginia just completed the 2 day 39 mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, D.C. this past weekend! Over 3000 participants helped raise more than $6.8 million to help fund research and education.
Urbanna is subject of Art on the Half Shell poster
The Art on the Half Shell Festival Foundation is happy to offer as this year’s festival poster, “Afternoon Reflections,” by Heathsville fine artist Charles VanDenburgh.
Celebrating a way of life through art
William Henry Clarke is a folk artist with a mission. Baptized in a muddy pond in Nottoway County, he spent his youth watching the traditions of black southerners slowly ebb away. His paintings capture the stories and images of his childhood and celebrate a way of life that only exists in people’s memory.
First Working Waterman’s Weekend pleases officials
Museum officials estimated about 2,000 people visited the museum and park. “I thought it was a really unusual affair,” said museum president Bob Kates. “It’s the first time we have honored our local watermen in this way, and I think it’s a stepping stone for a greater event in the future.”
