Coast Guard to honor Carl Dize Sr. Sunday
The public is invited to an award ceremony this Sunday, March 27, to honor Carl M. Dize Sr. of Urbanna with the Coast Guard Commendation Medal for his “extraordinary lifesaving efforts while serving with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.”
Molly Perkins is YMCA’s Teen Volunteer of the Year
With over 500 volunteer hours in 2010, Perkins served as a counselor in training in after-school and summer camp with the Youth & Family Services Program of the Middlesex Family YMCA.
‘Lock Up for Life’ to benefit Relay for Life
A “Lock Up for Life” fundraiser will be held Thursday, March 31, from 10 a.m-2 p.m. in the Cooks Corner Office Complex (old St. Clare Walker School). Folks throughout Middlesex County will be headed to “jail” to raise money for the Relay For Life of Middlesex.
River Birch Animal Farm plans re-grand opening
Growing up, his parents, Ann and Mercer Major, encouraged or “allowed” Brian to raise peacocks, hatch chickens and ducks, raise cows, rescue stray dogs and more. His love and enthusiasm for the animals has continued all these years and has led him to create River Birch Animal Farm on Route 33 in Locust Hill.
Urbanna ‘explorer’ hopes to win $10,000 toward expedition
Trevor Frost, 25, of Urbanna, is one of two finalists in the National Geographic TV’s Young Explorer competition with $10,000 in prize money on the line. If he wins, Frost will travel to the island of Sumatra to work with scientists and park rangers in three parks in Indonesia.
