Local Civil Air Patrol promotes two cadets
Jessica E. Olmedo was recently promoted to the rank of Cadet Airman First Class (C/A1C) by the Hummel Field Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. Cadets must pass an aerospace test, along with a leadership, and physical fitness test in order to advance in rank. Cadets also must attend at least one Moral Leadership session. C/A1C Olmedo was also presented with the General H.H. “Hap” Arnold Award from Lt. Col. Bert Jones during the ceremony.

‘Storm tides’ workshop is Thursday in Deltaville
On July 30, researchers from Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) will host a workshop to help residents understand the factors that impact storm tide risk in their communities. The workshop is free and includes lunch and presentations from Dr. John Brubaker, Dr. John Boon and Dr. David Forrest.

Last week, Habitat for Humanity Middlesex an-nounced the beginning of a building campaign for $60,000. This might cause one to wonder if land in Middlesex County can be purchased and a house constructed for $60,000. The answer is probably not. Each construction project is unique and the total cost is determined by the type and degree of donations.
