County & state offices closed for Lee-Jackson Day
Lee–Jackson Day is a holiday celebrated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and 10 other states for the birthdays of Confederate Civil War generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. It will be celebrated this Friday, January 14, and most state and Middlesex County offices will be closed.
Artists invited to display work at The Gallery
The Mathews Art Group (MAG) has a valentine’s gift for budding artists. Through the month of February, The Gallery, which is operated by a local art cooperative, will display—without charge—the work of aspiring artists in any medium.

Country doctor dies; legacy remains strong
Dr. David Buell Nichols, who fulfilled a promise to the residents of Tangier Island by taking care of their health needs for over 31 years, died last week surrounded by family at his home on the Rappahannock River.
