Middlesex Museum’s black history program set
As February represents Black History Month throughout the U.S., the Middlesex County Museum has planned an exciting program on February 17 for the community, and especially its children, to relive the powerful past and recapture the various accomplishments of area pioneers.
Outdoor fire law in effect Feb. 15
Virginia’s “4 p.m. Burning Law” goes into effect Tuesday, February 15—the start of spring fire season in Virginia. The law prohibits burning before 4 p.m. each day until April 30 if the fire is in, or within 300 feet of woodland, brushland or fields containing dry grass or other flammable materials.
Jacob’s Ladder founders are Pride of Middlesex
The 2011 “Pride of Middlesex” award belongs to Aubrey and Margie Hall. In a meeting Tuesday, February 1, at The Pilot House Restaurant in Topping, Middlesex Rotarians voted the couple be the recipients of the annual award given to a person or organization that best reflects Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
Museum expands John’s Events Pavilion
As the countdown to the official opening day of the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park looms, volunteers are hard at work expanding the John’s Events Pavilion and getting this multi-purpose building ready for the many activities and events of 2011.
