“Working Waterman’s Weekend” to open 2009 season
There will be something for everyone this Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, at Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park. The official start of the museum’s warm weather season expands this year into their First Annual Working Waterman’s Weekend with both land and water exhibits.
Artist specializes in Native American subjects
Distinguished by her use of Native American subject material, Ropelewski’s style is very much her own. “I have been enamored by Native Americans all of my life,” she said. “Their spiritualism and beautiful culture made an early impact on me that has not let me go.”
Deadline for O-Fest poster contest is August 19
The Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation has announced a contest for the 52nd Urbanna Oyster Festival, November 6-7, which has long been an event of tradition. One of the many traditions is an annual poster or print. This year, the foundation will have a poster and would like to include everyone in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the project.
Kayak tour seeks participants
The 11th Annual Kayak Tour, a part of The Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Cup Regatta Series, will be on Saturday, May 9, at 9:30 a.m. Bay Trails Outfitters will again lead an exciting paddle through the waters of Jackson Creek. Kayakers will depart from the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park.
Sisters honored for ‘Service Above Self’
Sisters Ruby Lee Norris and Rachel Bridger were honored as the “Pride of Middlesex” by the Rotary Club of Middlesex County at its award banquet on Saturday at Christchurch School. It was the 10th annual recognition of those who epitomize the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”
