Christmas house tours planned in Urbanna


The chill is in the air, football games abound, children of all ages are wishing for snowflakes, and one sees and feels festive spirits everywhere. The holidays are here again and it’s time to experience the “wonderful life” of historic Urbanna with its annual Christmas House Tour on Saturday, December 6.

John Barber premiers new painting this weekend

John Morton Barber, the nationally-acclaimed American artist who has painted the Chesapeake Bay and the eastern seaboard for three decades, will personally debut his latest painting, “Chesapeake Bound-Making Sail Aboard the Schooner Man A Way, Urbanna, Virginia-Circa 1930," at the Middlesex Art Guild Gallery.

Pratt wins women’s U.S. oyster shucking title

Virginia Oyster Shucking Champion Deborah Pratt of Jamaica in Middlesex County won the Women's Division of the National Oyster Shucking Contest at St. Mary's County, Maryland, last Saturday.

A final tribute to ‘Miss Florence’

Charter boat captain John Holmes of Locust Hill left Locklies Creek on Saturday, October 4, with a party of six for a day of bottom fishing off Tabb Beach, just east of the Robert O. Norris Jr. Bridge.
