Local dog being trained for search-and-rescue
Maryanne Gibson of Jamaica and her 14-month-old Belgium Malinois, “Diva,” have been selected by K-9 Alert Inc. to be trained to “search and rescue” (SAR). Gibson and Diva started training in May and Gibson became a handling-in-training member of K-9 Alert in September.
Master guitar maker to speak at Sundays at Two
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, at the Sundays at Two program in the Lancaster Community Library in Kilmarnock, Jim Merrill will present a program titled “Meet the Maker—Guitar Maker, that is!” Merrill is a master luthier and a recognized Martin Guitar historian.
Girl Scouts donate food to Cryer Center
Girl Scout Troop 277 celebrated the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts by having a food collection. The troop set a goal to collect over 100 items to be donated to the local food bank. The girls surpassed their goal and the items were donated to The Cryer Center.
‘Beekeeping for Beginners’ class to begin Monday
The Northern Neck Beekeepers Club and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service are offering a “Beekeeping for Beginners” class. Participants will learn how to reverse the trend of falling honeybee population, and how bees pollinate a wide variety of crops, flowers and small plants and produce honey.
