Donk’s to host Talent Search this Saturday
On Saturday, April 14, Donk’s Theater in Mathews, Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry, will host the second Talent Search of 2012. The Talent Search portion of the show is open to local talent of all ages. The contest spotlights talent hopefuls in the country music arena who wish to compete and get the chance to perform with a live band.
Historic Deltaville deadrise donated to Maritime Museum
The 32-foot Deltaville-built deadrise, “Cooper Hill,” has been donated to the Deltaville Maritime Museum by Keith Ruse, the owner of Deltaville Boat Yard in Deltaville. Cooper Hill will be used by the museum as an in-the-water exhibit, and to take visitors on cruises of the creeks at events.
Middlesex Lions Club to celebrate 50th anniversary
The Middlesex County Lions Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary on “Anniversary Charter Night” Tuesday, April 10, at the Beacon Restaurant in Topping. The social hour will start at 6 p.m. and a program and dinner will begin at 7 p.m.
A lifetime of education and community service
Holmes, whose career as an educator began in the 1950s, started as a park ranger in May, 1958. Ironically perhaps, he was a ranger and historical interpreter at the National Historical Monument Birthplace of the famous African American educator Booker T. Washington in Franklin County near Roanoke.
