‘Wait Until Dark’ to open tonight
imageSuspense is the word for the Court House Players new production “Wait Until Dark” showing Thursday through Sunday, November 15-18, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Gloucester. Billed as one of the 100 scariest movies ever made, the play skips the slash and chop of most horror movies to scare you with real people.

Craft show begins Friday in Urbanna
Christmas Crafts on the Rivah will present its 6th annual Juried Craft Show this Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at 230 Virginia Street (Delegate Hodges’ office) in Urbanna. Friday hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday hours are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Pratt wins state oyster shucking championship
imageDeborah Pratt of Jamaica in upper Middlesex County emerged as champion of the 2012 Virginia Oyster Shucking Competition held last Saturday at the 55th annual Urbanna Oyster Festival. Pratt defeated the men’s professional winner, Jermaine Brokenborough of Ashland, in the finals. Pratt’s time to shuck two dozen oysters was 2:54, compared to Brokenborough’s time of 5:03.

‘History of Middlesex County’ book to be unveiled Nov. 18
“Signatures In Time—A Living History of Middlesex County, Virginia” will be released on Sunday, November 18, at an unveiling at Rosegill Plantation, just outside of Urbanna. The book is a six-year project completed by the Middlesex County Jamestown 2007 Book Committee.
