‘Storm tides’ workshop is Thursday in Deltaville
On July 30, researchers from Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) will host a workshop to help residents understand the factors that impact storm tide risk in their communities. The workshop is free and includes lunch and presentations from Dr. John Brubaker, Dr. John Boon and Dr. David Forrest.

Last week, Habitat for Humanity Middlesex an-nounced the beginning of a building campaign for $60,000. This might cause one to wonder if land in Middlesex County can be purchased and a house constructed for $60,000. The answer is probably not. Each construction project is unique and the total cost is determined by the type and degree of donations.
Kid’s Explorer Day draws record crowd
Over 200 wide-eyed youngsters and their smiling parents immersed themselves in Deltaville history and pirate lore at the newly expanded “Kid’s Explorer Day” on July 11 at the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park. For the first time, the museum expanded the event, better known as “John Smith Meets the Pirates,” from one show to two shows, with lots of “pirating around” and lunch in between.
Deltaville Farmers’ Market is Saturday
The Deltaville Farmers’ Market will once again be held on the waterfront of Holly Point Nature Park at the Deltaville Maritime Museum this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location is under the trees and provides lots of shade for booths and shoppers.
Youth fest is Saturday in Urbanna
Urbanna Baptist Church will host a Youth Outreach Event at the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department building in Urbanna on Saturday, July 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. Urbanna Baptist Church’s puppet team “No Strings Attached” will perform, as well as the band “Reverent Youth.”
