Girl Scouts donate food to Cryer Center
Girl Scout Troop 277 celebrated the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts by having a food collection. The troop set a goal to collect over 100 items to be donated to the local food bank. The girls surpassed their goal and the items were donated to The Cryer Center.
‘Beekeeping for Beginners’ class to begin Monday
The Northern Neck Beekeepers Club and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service are offering a “Beekeeping for Beginners” class. Participants will learn how to reverse the trend of falling honeybee population, and how bees pollinate a wide variety of crops, flowers and small plants and produce honey.
Winter Music Fair to offer fun for all ages
The public is invited to attend the West Point Winter Music Fair on Friday, February 3. This new family-fun event will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at West Point Public Schools. The refreshment choices will include Brunswick stew, barbecue, hot dogs, chips, baked goods and drinks. All proceeds will benefit the Music Departments of all three West Point schools.
Actor Michael Kennedy interprets filming of ‘Lincoln’ in Richmond
If filming in Richmond doesn’t bring Steven Spielberg’s movie “Lincoln” close enough to home, another connection certainly will. Irvington resident Michael Kennedy will appear in the film as Iowa congressman Hiram Price. Kennedy, who has worked as a freelance actor in major films and television shows for some 40 years, landed the role after receiving a call from a Virginia casting director.
‘Great Decisons’ starts January 27
The series of eight meetings on issues of foreign policy that goes by the name “Great Decisions” will start Friday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited. The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) has chosen eight subjects for local groups to consider this year: the Middle East, exiting Iraq and Afghanistan, cybersecurity, promoting democracy, Mexico, the global politics of energy, Indonesia, and the Oceans.
