Humane Society shelter celebrates 1st anniversary

On Saturday, August 28, the Gloucester Mathews Humane Society (which, despite its name, serves the three counties of Middlesex, Gloucester and Mathews) celebrated the first anniversary of its new shelter.

Nelson becomes Eagle Scout

Joe Sherman Nelson, son of Alice and Todd Nelson of Wake, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouting, during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony last Thursday at the Christ Church Parish House.

Educational day at the Hartfield firehouse

“Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who brought their kids and grandkids out for this event,” said an event spokesperson. “The younger kids got to color pictures dealing with escaping from their house in case of a fire, and the older kids made and colored pictures about ‘Stop Drop and Roll.’”

Maritime Museum offers cruises aboard ‘Lillian B.’

Expanding their offerings to the public to experience both the past and “living” maritime history of the Chesapeake Bay, the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park announced this week it will offer a series of free cruises to preview the beginning of their “Deltaville Maritime Museum Discovery Cruises.”
