A public hearing will convene at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at the office of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC), 2600 Washington Avenue, 4th floor, Newport News, to review a revised application submitted by Hunton Creek Improvement Association seeking authorization from VMRC to modify their existing permit to allow the placement of a 50-foot long by 30-foot wide “Geotube” bag filled with a portion of the sandy material dredged from the Hunton Creek entrance channel project to be placed along the upper portion of the beach and dune located on the northwest side of the channel on property owned by Mr. Todd Gehr at 131 Dee Dee Lane in Middlesex County. The bag will be covered with additional sandy dredged material and planted with appropriate beach and dune vegetation in an attempt to restore the dune feature. The Association also seeks authorization to allow the channel to be maintenance dredged with a small suction dredge in addition to the previously authorized mechanical method. The project will require a Coastal Primary Sand Dune/Beach permit and a subaqueous permit modification.
