Youth Encounter due Saturday at Water View

A Youth Encounter titled “No Compromise” will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 20, at the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department grounds on Route 640 in Water View. The event is sponsored by the Mid-Tidewater Baptist Association.

There is no admission charge and all area youth are encouraged to attend. Youth should bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Food will be available for purchase.

The worship leader will be John Ivins Bond of Richmond. He will challenge students to encounter God through song and praise. The John Ivins Band has appeared in venues across Virginia as well as in foreign countries.

The guest speaker will be Chad Norris, who confronts prepackaged Christianity by inspiring people toward uncomfortable intimacy with God, said an event spokesperson. He does this as he speaks and writes to people of all ages—children, students, and adults—with a narrative style that links our stories to God’s story.

Norris was one of the co-founders of Wayfarer in 2000, and he serves as Wayfarer’s lead initiator of connections to the upstate community and beyond. He also serves as a speaker for Wayfarer Camp.

He graduated from the University of Georgia and received his master of divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School.
