Used walkers, etc. sought for Third World countries

Used aluminum canes, crutches, wheelchairs and walkers are being collected by Kathy Wilder at 85 Tree Lane in Hartfield.

Through a worldwide program, the chairs and walkers are sent to a prison where they are refurbished and shrink wrapped, and then put into shipping containers and shipped to Third World countries, said Wilder.

“A group of missionaries go with the equipment to fit each wheelchair, walker, cane or crutches to the person who needs them,” she said. “These  chairs help people who would have no other way of getting these things otherwise without our help. Some of these chairs cost more than an entire year’s salary in some of these countries.”

Those who would like to donate no-longer-needed walkers and other walking equipment or parts, regardless of condition, should email or call her at 804-761-6343. All donations are tax-deductible.
