Urbanna Methodist plans contemporary service

Urbanna United Methodist Church will host a new contemporary worship service beginning Wednesday, June 24, and continuing on July 29, August 26 and September 30.

“These services will take on a very different look from the traditional service held on Sunday mornings,” said Rev. Joe Cailles, church pastor.  “They will be very casual and interactive.”
The locally fused band “Reverent Youth” will perform and much of the service will revolve around praise and worship music.

Rev. Cailles said this concept came from a Lenten study of “Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation,” this one being “Passionate Worship.” Members feel that this is a way to reach out to those who are looking for something different than a conventional service in which most of us are familiar.

“Wednesdays were chosen so as not to interfere with other church services on Sunday mornings and to make it convenient for families. It is our hope to reach out to all, whether you have a church home or not. We will evaluate the success of these four services with the hope of continuing them beyond September,” said Rev. Cailles.

Services will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the sanctuary of the church at 221 Marston Avenue in Urbanna. All are invited.

Please call the church office at 758-5308 for more information.
