Three Deltaville churches to share Ash Wednesday service
Zoar Baptist, Clarksbury United Methodist and Philippi Christian (Disciples of Christ) churches will come together for a joint observance of Ash Wednesday, February 17, at Philippi at 6:30 p.m.
“It was Dr. Snow’s idea,” said Philippi pastor Mike Cook. “Apparently in his last church it was the tradition of the clergy group there to join together for various weekday services. Pastor Vaudt and I thought it was a great way to demonstrate the unity of the our churches.”
Rev. Dr. John Snow is pastor of Zoar Baptist and Rev. Eric Vaudt is the minister at Clarksbury Methodist.
The group has also decided to join together for a Good Friday service, and possibly one other service during the year, in addition to the traditional Easter sunrise service the three churches have done together for some years.
Dr. Snow will preach at the Ash Wednesday service, Pastor Cook will preside, and Pastor Vaudt will distribute the ashes.
“We have a special hope that this might draw out some in our community who have been thinking about going to church but haven’t yet gone,” says Pastor Cook. “The season of Lent is a great time to start going to church. We don’t care which of the three congregations people choose. We’re all on the same team.”
