Stephanie Nakasian and friends in concert this Friday at UUMC

Urbanna United Methodist Church (UUMC) will host a concert by renowned vocalist Stephanie Nakasian at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 22. Also featured will be drummer John Bacon, a mainstay of the western New York music scene, as well as Virginia bassist Christopher Brydge, and UUMC music director Michael McNeill on piano.

“Stephanie Nakasian is a true treasure of the Virginia jazz community,” said McNeill, “and in demand around the country as a technically skilled and highly expressive jazz vocalist, with a deep repertoire of standards delivered with reverence for the jazz tradition. She’s also a busy educator as the main jazz voice teacher at both UVa and at William and Mary.”

“Also joining us is drummer John Bacon,” said McNeill. “John is the anchor of so many of the great jazz groups of western New York, and he’s also a top-call drummer/percussionist for classical, Broadway, and rock/blues gigs, too. He’s also a great composer in a variety of genres—really one of those musicians who can do anything.”

In lieu of admission, a free-will offering will be taken to support the musicians ($10-20 per person suggested, but all donations gratefully accepted).
