SRBA to convene July 21-23
The Southside Rappahannock Baptist Association (SRBA) and Its Allied Bodies will convene July 21-23 at First Baptist Church Hockley where Rev. Keith L. Parham serves as senior pastor.
This year’s theme is “Help Wanted: It’s Harvest Time” (Matthew 9:37-38).
The official opening will be Sunday, July 19, at 6 p.m. when the SRBA Concert Choir will be presented in full concert. The choir is under the direction of Herbert Dungee, assisted by Ann Latimore and Marcellus Dungee. Pastors of member churches will open the concert with a parade of church banners.
The executive board will meet at 10 a.m. on Monday. Registration will begin on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Various representatives from SRBA major mission objectives will present updates and share highlights of upcoming events.
Dr. John M. Alexander of Washington, D.C., chairman of the board of directors for the Lott Carey Mission, will be present Wednesday as SRBA field will make their reports. Churches are asked to have their field agent representatives in place at this time. The youth department, under the directorship of Gina R. McGuire, also will perform.
Rev. Bill Williams, associate minister of the Good Hope Baptist Church, will preach the annual sermon and Rev. Dr. John W. Kinney, dean of the School of Theology and professor at Virginia Union University, will preach the inspirational sermon.
The Thursday session will begin at 3 p.m. Following the dinner hour, the Division of Men will host its session beginning at 7 p.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. Marcus Martin, pastor of New Bridge Baptist Church in Henrico County. Music will be provided by the men’s chorus directed by Rev. Robert D. Brown.
The celebration banquet on Friday night will be at 6 p.m. at United Community Center on Route 606, Cologne. Tickets ($10) also can be purchased at the registration desk.
