‘Recovery Sunday’ service to focus on substance abuse

“Recovery Sunday” is an effort by church leaders in Middlesex County to address the growing problem of substance abuse in the commonwealth and in local communities. It is rooted in the conviction that God has called us as Christians to deal with this problem that is destroying families and communities.

In order to inform and mobilize churches in our area, a service sponsored by the Middlesex County Ministerial Association will be held on Sunday, October 14, at 5 p.m. at New Hope Fellowship Church in Hartfield. The service will feature guest speakers, scripture, prayer and song, and a special opportunity to respond together in hope and faithfulness.

Guest speakers will include Rep. Keith Hodges (Delegate, 98th District), Rebecca Morgan (Director of the Department of Social Services, Middlesex County), Rev. Leonard Edloe (Pastor, New Hope Fellowship), Ashley Ritchie (Director, Mercy House, Richmond), along with testimonies in word and song from women of the Mercy House. A love offering will be taken in support of the ministry of Mercy House.

“We encourage all concerned citizens to join us as we seek ways to learn about and respond in faith and hope to this epidemic that impacts so many of our fellow citizens,” said a Middlesex County Ministerial Association spokesperson.
