‘Praying in Color’ author to speak at LUMC VBS
The public is invited to experience “Praying in Color” Vacation Bible School (VBS) for kids and adults Sunday through Thursday, August 4-8, at Lower United Methodist Church in Hartfield.
A free dinner will be enjoyed by all from 5:30-6 p.m. with worship, Bible study, art, snacks and outdoor activities from 6-8:30 p.m. each day. Children also will learn how to use their Bibles and each child will be given a “Deep Blue Bible” that will be theirs to use during VBS and theirs to take home afterwards.
The guest speaker will be author Sybil MacBeth.
This new prayer form can take as little or as much time as you have or want to commit. A minimum amount might be 15 minutes. A half-hour works well—any time of the day. Drawing is half the prayer (no talent necessary), the other half is transporting the visual memories or actual images with you to pray throughout the day.
“A new prayer form gives God an invitation and a new door to penetrate the locked cells of our hearts and minds,” explains MacBeth. For many of us, using only words to pray reduces God by the limits of our finite words.
This is prayer that makes sense to kids. One minute a day will do. Any time of the day will work. Drawing with markers or crayons is half the prayer; the other half is carrying the visual memories throughout the day.
Pre-register for the VBS by emailing Lower United Methodist Church at or by calling the church office at 776-6250. Please leave your name and a contact phone number. Lower Church is located at 120 Lower Church Road in Hartfield.
