Philippi plans fundraiser for injured military personnel
The public is invited to support a fundraiser for military men and women who have either been wounded in combat operations or injured as a result of line-of-duty activities in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
An auction, part silent and part live, will be held at Philippi Christian Church, Deltaville, on November 10, at 5 p.m.
Families of the Wounded Fund Inc. was founded by a small group of veterans in 2005 for the sole purpose of providing family members/caregivers assistance while their loved ones are receiving prescribed medical treatment at McGuire Veterans Medical Center in Richmond.
Because there are only four hospitals in the country that are able to accommodate these severe injuries, many of the caregivers have to relocate or travel to visit or help their loved ones.
All work in this organization is volunteer and 100% of donations go to the families.
The evening at Philippi will begin with a lovely assortment of hors d’oeuvres and silent bidding. Soups will be provided by the members of Philippi Church and served by veterans in the congregation. Many generous business owners in the area have donated a variety of services from haircuts to oil changes toward the auction. Colonel (Ret.) Catherine M. Hundley will present a short program and answer any questions.
Please remember our veterans this Veteran’s Day weekend and support a great cause. All food is provided but donations will be appreciated.
