At a special morning service on September 6, Philippi Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) paid honor to members who volunteer their time, energy and resources to community service in Middlesex and surrounding counties.  Honorees were nominated by the church membership.

Organizations and volunteer activities supported by the volunteers include one or more of the following: Three Rivers Medical Reserve Corps, Bay Transit, Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, Communities in Schools Program, Cryer Community Center, Deltaville Community Association, Deltaville Maritime Museum, Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad (MCVRS), MCVRS Auxiliary, Donovan Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Habitat for Humanity, Hands Across Middlesex, Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department, Holly Point Nature Park, Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (LMVFD), LMVFD Auxiliary, Mathew 25, Mathews Public Schools Tutor Program, Meals-on-Wheels, Middlesex Lions Club, and Middlesex Shriners.

During the service Pastor Mike Cook discussed the blending and contributions of the “Born-Here” and the “Come-Here” groups in the community. A reception for the honorees was held after the service in the church fellowship hall and the volunteer organizations were given an opportunity to exhibit and explain the nature of their activities to the church membership.
