Philippi Church plans Lenten program on faith-sharing
“I’ve noticed many Christians keep their faith to themselves for fear of sounding like fanatics trying to force their opinions on others,” said Pastor Mike Cook of Philippi Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Deltaville. “So we have decided to offer some help.”
Philippi will begin a program called “Unbinding Your Heart” starting Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m., based on the best-selling book “Unbinding the Gospel” by Martha Grace Reese, on the practice of faith-sharing.
The program will meet seven Wednesday evenings through the season of Lent and will include daily prayer and journaling, together with reading Reese’s book.
“We’d like Christians of every denomination to take advantage of this insightful book for the benefit of their own congregations,” said Pastor Cook.
“I think this will make people feel more comfortable talking about their faith and its meaning for their lives,” said Philippi’s evangelism team chairperson and deacon Dennis Mann.
