Philippi Christian Church to begin book discussion group

“Millions of Christian women make their decisions regarding faith, family, and career based on popular conceptions of ‘Biblical womanhood,’ though few have considered the selectivity with which they apply gender-based Biblical instructions,” said writer Rachel Held Evans, who set out to determine what the Bible actually teaches about women.

Inspired by A.J. Jacobs’ “A Year of Living Biblically,” she set out to follow the Bible’s instructions for women as literally as possible for a year to show that no woman, no matter how devout, is actually practicing Biblical womanhood completely or perfectly.

Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville will launch two discussion groups focused on Evans’ popular work beginning Sunday, July 13. The first group will meet on Sundays at 2 p.m. The second group will meet on Thursdays at 6 p.m.  For more information, call 776-6230.
