‘One Community Under God’ service to be held this Sunday

The “One Community Under God” worship service will be held Sunday, September 17, on the grounds of historic Hewick Plantation near Urbanna.

Six churches are involved in this year’s event—Antioch Baptist, Calvary Baptist, Immanuel Baptist, Mt. Zion Baptist, Urbanna Baptist, and Urbanna United Methodist. The theme is “We Are Family.”

The service will begin at 11 a.m. but people are encouraged to begin arriving at 10:30 a.m. Some seating will be provided, but please bring lawn chairs if possible. All are invited to attend.

A love offering will be accepted during worship service. The One Community Under God committee members voted to distribute the offering equally to the local Habitat for Humanity and the local Virginia Rules program. Checks may be made out to Urbanna United Methodist Church with OCUG in the memo. Mail donations to P.O. Box 427, Urbanna, VA 23175. Call 804-445-5553 for more information.

Sponsors are welcomed. To date, sponsors include Church View Septic Services, Cyndy’s Bynn, Hewick Plantation, Mud Duck Express, Pitts Lumber, Revere family, Shear Delight, and Thrift Oil Company, Something Different and Urbanna Market.

Choirs of all six churches will join together to share musical talents and praise during the service. Michael McNeill will direct.

One of the musical groups is “Jubal,” a contemporary praise and worship team organized in 2011 to take part in what was then called “a different kind of worship” at Urbanna United Methodist Church (UUMC).

Another featured performer will be soloist George Robinson of Calvary Baptist Church.

Powell Smith, a Middlesex native, will be the keynote speaker.
