Mother’s Day essay winners

On May 31 the Middlesex County Literary Union, in conjunction with the Yarbrough Foundation, announced the winners of its Mother’s Day Essay Contest. Above, from left, are Corey Keeling and Darrien Fisher, winners  in the High School Division; Tierra Young, winner in the Middle School Division; Deacon Alvin Wake, representing his grandchildren (Kaleb Wake, winner  in the Middle School Division, and Tambria Wake, winner in the Elementary School Division); and Avis Keeling, winner in the Elementary Division.

Corey, Kaleb, Tambria and Avis attend Grafton Baptist Church, Tierra attends Immanuel Baptist Church, and Darrien attends Mount Zion Baptist Church. Rev. Calvin Rideau, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, is the president of Middlesex County Literary Union.

The prizes were: high school, $100 each; middle school, $50 each; and elementary school, $25 each.
