Middlesex Ministerial Assoc. urges support for Haiti
by Mike Cook, Pastor
Philippi Christian Church
The pastors of our Middlesex County churches stand united in their deep concern for the desperate situation of the people of Haiti. We urge Christians and all others to earnestly pray for a continuing global focus on the rescue and rebuilding efforts going on there.
We further thank God that the church of Jesus Christ, in all its diverse communions and denominations, was not only already there and at work serving the poor in that troubled country, but also has been among the very first of all the world’s peoples to respond to the devastation.
Our pastors further recommend that Christians and all others who wish to respond with financial support seriously consider giving through established church agencies, which not only are already present in the situation, but also guarantee that the highest percentage of each dollar donated reaches those who are in need.
Among those agencies are the ecumenical organization Church World Service (http://www.cwserp.org), the United Methodist Committee on Relief (http://www.new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor), The Southern Baptist International Mission Board (http://www.imb.org), the Virginia Baptist Mission Board (http://www.vbmb.org), the Disciples of Christ’s Week of Compassion (http://www.weekofcompassion.org), Episcopal Relief and Development (http://www.er-d.org), among many others.
