Local pastors to speak at ‘One Community Under God’ service

This year’s “One Community Under God” worship service will be held Sunday, September 16, on the grounds of Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department in Urbanna. The theme is “We are Family.” The service will begin at 11 a.m. and people are encouraged to arrive by 10:30 a.m. The worship service will be held under a tent on the lawn behind the firehouse. Worshippers must bring a lawn chair since no outdoor seating will be provided.

Eight churches are involved in this year’s event: Antioch Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Christ Church Parish Middlesex, Immanuel Baptist Church, Lebanon/Greater Grace Baptist Church, Urbanna Baptist Church and Urbanna United Methodist Church.

A love offering will be accepted during the worship service. The One Community Under God committee voted to distribute the offering equally among the Middlesex County volunteer first-responders and the local Virginia Rules program. Your check may be made out to One Community Under God. Additional tax deductible donations may be mailed to OCUG, P.O. Box 427, Urbanna VA 23175.

Many have offered sponsorships to help with the expenses of this year’s One Community Under God worship event. The sponsors include Isabell K. Horsley Realty Ltd., Mason Realty Inc., Shear Delight, Thrift Oil Co., Church View Septic, First Baptist Church Amburg, C&F Bank, Something Different, Urbanna Market and Rappahannock Rentals Inc. and Party Line. Sponsors are welcome. For information, call 804-443-5553.

Several hundred people attended this event last year and we are anticipating more this year. Dress is casual so come as you are, and remember to bring your lawn chair.

For details or questions, contact Pat Wake 804-443-5553 or Eileen Smith at 758-4371.
