Harmony Grove prepares for celebration

by Betty Kennon

On June 21, at 10:30 a.m. the celebration of Harmony Grove Baptist Church’s 150th anniversary will begin.

In preparation of this event, this Sunday, June 14, we will hear from our past intentional interim, Pastor Edward P. Harrow Sr. It will be a very special time for Pastor Harrow as he attended Harmony Grove as a young boy with his family.

Meanwhile, the members of Harmony Grove have been hard at work in preparing the church, the grounds, the members, the community and those whose families have enjoyed attending this wonderful church for the upcoming celebration.

We began by reproducing the beautiful 150th Anniversary Print as drawn by Robert Crump and have had prints made.

We next gathered recipes from our members, their parents, ancestors, as well as those attending Harmony Grove, even just in the summer or when here at the campground, and published a cookbook that contains over 690 recipes and has the picture of the 150th Anniversary Print on the front.

We then decided to have a Church Pictorial Directory made, which features past and present events and represents almost 120 families involved in the church. It also has a hard cover and has the picture of the 150th Anniversary Print on the front. We have had a china church plate made which can be hung on the wall to remember this wonderful event.

We have gold Christmas ornaments of the church, which can be either hung on your Christmas tree, placed on your mantel, or framed as a memento of this beautiful building.

If you would like to purchase any of these items, please contact the church office between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday at 758-5154 or contact a church member. Also all of these items will be on display and available on June 21.

Next week, we will give you the details of the service and the events of our day of celebration—June 21, 2009—150 years!
