Hands Across Middlesex

by Cathy Newcomb

Hands Across Middlesex held its January meeting at Mount Zion Church near Saluda on January 18. If you have not visited this church, you need to do so. It is so warm. The church ceiling is remarkable. The woodwork is magnificent. Thanks goes to that congregation for hosting us. We certainly appreciated their hospitality and beautiful surroundings.

Many things were discussed at this meeting. Issues of great interest to the community at large would be the acknowledgment of the tremendous outpour we have received from all of you in the community of donations. This includes food, money, clothing and furniture. Thank you, most sincerely. You have all contributed to making the lives of many people in need healthier and more comfortable. Our Food Bank, Clothing Barn and Furniture Barn are full of wonderful things to share.

Needless to say, the hard workers among our organization members should be praised for their most recent efforts installing ramps and transferring those ramps no longer needed in their present locations  to places where they are now of use to other citizens. Several bathrooms are being renovated at this point in time. The recipients of these services will be in healthier and safer surroundings soon.
We also have a most generous community member working hard to relocate our facilities. In the near future, we plan to have a new home. When we do, we will let you know and welcome you to a most attractive and useful venue.

Also, of great interest to you, would be the wonderful concert coming up in February. Ellen Tenenbaum will be performing at Lower United Methodist Church in Hartfield on February 15 at 3 p.m. She is an accomplished pianist. She will be playing music by Chopin, Schubert, Mozart and Scott Joplin. This concert is free. If you choose to contribute to the donation jar, your contributions will benefit Hands Across Middlesex. Thank you in advance for your support.

Lower United Methodist Church is located on Route 33 in Hartfield, just past Fleet Brothers Inc.

The next Hands meeting will be held 45 minutes before the concert at Lower Church in the church’s lower level. Members are reminded to please bring two dozen cookies to place on the reception table for the refreshments offered after the concert. Members are encouraged to help with serving these refreshments to the guests.
