‘Four Chaplains Service’ due Feb. 3 in Gloucester
On Saturday, February 3, at 11 a.m., a “Four Chaplains Service” will be held at Bellamy United Methodist Church at 4870 Chestnut Fork Rd., Gloucester, VA 23061.
This service marks the 75th anniversary of the heroic actions of the four chaplains on the USAT Dorchester sunk in the North Atlantic by German U-Boat U-223 on February 3, 1943. Of the 902 men aboard, 672 died. These chaplains sacrificed their lives so others could live.
The service will again be sponsored by American Legion Post #75 Gloucester, American Legion Post #83 Mathews, DAV Chapter #58 Gloucester, Marine Corps League Middle Peninsula Detachment #1317 Gloucester, and VFW Post #8252 Gloucester.
The guest speaker will be Rev. Kenneth S. Waclo, Bellamy United Methodist Church and USCG Auxiliary Sector Hampton Roads lay leader, and there will be a lunch served after the service.
The community is invited to attend.
