The Foundation for Historic Christ Church is sponsoring a series of four lectures in September and October on various aspects of American Roots Music.

The topic of the first lecture will be “Traditional Scottish Music in 18th and 19th Century Virginia.” Dr. John Turner, religion project director at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, specializes in such music and his lecture will be both informative and entertaining. He has been performing at Colonial Williamsburg since 1968 and often can be found delighting diners at Williamsburg taverns with his fiddle. Turner is the third generation in a family of traditional fiddlers and has both CDs and books of Scottish music to his credit.

The public is invited to learn about traditional Scottish music as one element of American Roots Music. The lecture will be held at the Lancaster Community Library in Kilmarnock on Wednesday, September 17, at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.
