VIDEO: Dr. Teresa Sutherlin gives invocation at Virginia Capitol
Dr. Teresa R. Sutherlin, PhD, pastor of Lebanon Baptist Church in Saluda and chancellor of Grace Bible College recently gave the invocation at Virginia State Capitol in Richmond. She was escorted by her husband, Dr. Robert Sutherlin, PhD, president of Grace Bible College and senior pastor of Lebanon Baptist Church.
Also accompanying the Sutherlins that day were friends, family, members of Lebanon Baptist Church and students of Grace Bible College. Their guests were given a tour of the Capitol building prior to the session starting and were able to visit the Rotunda (a dramatic interior dome and skylight illuminating Jean-Antoine Houdon’s marble statue of George Washington), and the Old Senate Chamber (originally a courtroom). Other rooms included the Old Hall of the House of Delegates and the Jefferson Room.
Students included persons from the Grace Bible College site in Roanoke, North Carolina, on Main Street in Rich Square inside of the Roanoke Center building. The class meets on Mondays and other designated days as needed. Students are traveling from as far as Raleigh, N.C., to attend the classes.
The Virginia campus of Grace Bible College is in Saluda at Lebanon Baptist Church. Students from that campus also accompanied Dr. Sutherlin. The graduation for both sites is on May 20, 2017. Approximately 50 students will be receiving their degrees at the church.
Dr. Sutherlin expressed great appreciation to Delegate Keith Hodges for all acts of kindness shown to everyone that attended. “It was such an honor to have been given the opportunity to pray for our lawmakers!” she said. “We were well received by everyone. It was truly an awesome experience!”
