Church of the Visitation seeks yard sale donations
Church of the Visitation on Route 33 in Topping will hold its 18th annual Super Yard Sale on Saturday, August 3, from 7 a.m.-noon. Household and outdoor items in clean and working order are badly needed. Cars and boats are also accepted. Forms are available for tax credits
Louise Petralia, project chairman, pointed out the benefits to the community derived from the annual sale. “Great merchandise is offered at low prices during a depressed economy,” she said. “Substantial cash donations are made annually to nonprofit community organizations. Past recipients have been the volunteer rescue squads, volunteer fire departments, Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary for a drug dog, Habitat for Humanity, Middlesex Schools Music/Drama Department, Hospice, and YMCA children’s start-up program. A donation of $500 (in 2012) was presented to the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic. Leftover merchandise is donated to the Cryer Center, Deltaville Rescue Squad thrift shop, Kings Daughters thrift shop, Rappahannock Hospital thrift shop, and Laurel Shelter, among others.”
Petralia opines that giving back to the community is probably the reason that so many in the community participate in donating to the sale, as well as attending the sale.
The annual sale is believed to be the largest in the area and will be held on the church grounds under the protection of tents. Breakfast and lunch items will be available along with tickets for the annual 50-50 cash raffle.
Inquiries may be made to the church office, 758-5160, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
