Church donates to Dental Clinic
Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church and its Agape Committee have donated $25,000 this year and committed to $25,000 for 2009 to support funding for a staff dentist at the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic’s Dental Clinic.
“Campbell’s donation will make an enormous difference in people’s lives,” said Free Health Clinic Executive Director Jean Nelson.
Campbell has been a key supporter of the clinic since its founding in 1993, and for the past 15 years has made multiple donations annually. These include thousands of dollars toward operating funds, donations of meals for the evening clinic volunteers, and financial support for the footings and foundation of the clinic’s first home on DMV Drive.
The Dental Clinic was opened in 2004 and operates Wednesdays through Fridays with a staff dentist and local volunteer dentists who oversee students from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. Through May of this year, more than $3.2 million in dental care has been provided to those otherwise unable to afford it.
The clinic overall, counting dental, medical and pharmaceutical services, is on track to provide more than $30 million in services by the end of the year. During 2008, the clinic budget of $1 million-plus will yield about $4.5 million in healthcare services to some 1,600 low-income, uninsured area residents.
