On Sunday, October 6, at the 10:30 a.m. worship service, Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) will honor the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi with a special Service of Blessing of Animals.
According to Fr. Paul Andersen, “Yes, our animal friends will be welcomed to the grounds of Christ Church, and even invited to join their families in the pews for our 10:30 a.m. worship; an important part of which will be the blessing of each animal. Despite the music, singing and liturgy, our experience has been that the animals are generally well-behaved and attentive.”
Fr. Andersen added, “We honor St. Francis because he came to see the full beauty of God’s creation in his close relationship with God’s creatures. He saw mirrored in their unconditional love, the love God has for us, for all his creatures, and for all his creation. In this Service of Blessing of Animals we celebrate that love. In an era in which too many have no relationship with animals, or merely view them as potential ‘road kill’ or ‘targets for the next hunt,’ we seek to honor and bless them.”
People and pets of all denominations are welcome. For further information, call the parish office at 758-2006. Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) is at Routes 638 and 33 adjacent to Christchurch School.
