Christ Church Parish to celebrate Feast of Pentecost

Sunday, May 20, is the celebration of the Feast of Pentecost and members of Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) invite the public to celebrate this major celebration of the church year with them at one of their two services—either at 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 20 Christchurch Lane, east of Saluda.

“Pentecost is the 50th day of Easter and it marks the gift of the Holy Spirit, which opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation,” said a church spokesperson. “This great event is described for us in the second chapter of the Book of Acts as a mighty rush of wind, divided tongues of fire, and the gift of speaking in other languages so that all could hear the Good News of Christ and understand. We often don’t recognize this celebration with the same care and attention that we give to Easter and Christmas by filling our churches with worshippers, but Pentecost calls us to the renewal of our baptismal vows to share the love of Christ with everyone.

“If you can’t make it to one of our services or to any other service, you can still remember this great feast in praying the prayer for the gift of the Holy Spirit,” which is:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
