Christ Church announces Ash Wednesday Service
At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) will mark the beginning of the Lenten season with a worship service that will include the ancient Rite of Imposition of Ashes.
In the Rite, the priest makes a small cross of ashes on each person’s forehead using the words, “Remember that thou art dust, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
“The ashes are made from the palms used in the previous year’s Palm Sunday celebrations and serve as a reminder not only of our human mortality, but as a symbol of the repentance and humility which we are called to display during Lent,” said Father Paul Andersen, rector of Christ Church.
Christ Church (Episcopal) is at Routes 33 and 638 in Christchurch, adjacent to Christchurch School.
