Black history events at Calvary
Calvary Baptist Church at Christchurch continued its celebration of black history last Sunday with a presentation from the church youth titled “Black Inventions/Inventors.” The church’s “African-American Slave Band” also performed and there was a hat fashion show (right).
It has been a tradition in black churches for generations to wear hats to church and the parade marked a continuation of this tradition.
Church officials thanked the music departments at Middlesex Elementary and St. Clare Walker Middle School for allowing the church to use school musical instruments for black history events. (Photo by Larry Chowning)
