Foster homes needed
JoAnn Wilson-Harfst, director of social services in Middlesex and Mathews counties, recently addressed members of the Middlesex Ministerial Association on the subject of foster care. She reported there are only four registered foster homes in Middlesex, and that the local foster care caseload is on the rise.

The Middlesex Department of Social Services is looking for good local homes for foster children. Foster care is the temporary substitute care of a child who has been placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services until that child can return to his or her family or be placed for adoption.

A St. Jude Trike-A-Thon event will gear up the week of April 27 at Urbanna Baptist Day Care Center. The event will help teach children riding-toy safety while raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the premier center for the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.
