Pete Mansfield of the Urbanna area easily defeated incumbent Robert Crump of Topping in Tuesday’s election for a Saluda District seat on the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors.

Not counting absentee ballots, Mansfield totaled 1,031 votes compared to 300 for Crump, the current board chairman.

In the race for a Pinetop District seat on Middlesex School Board, Garland Harrow of Deltaville got 968 votes to unseat incumbent and longtime board member Jim Goforth of Hartfield, who had 577 votes.

Also elected were unopposed supervisor candidate Carlton Revere (1,468 votes) of Hartfield in Pinetop District, and unopposed incumbent school board candidate Dr. Richard Shores (1,130 votes) of the Urbanna area in Saluda District.

Unopposed Republican Harvey Morgan of Middlesex won re-election to the 98th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

The Republicans easily swept the statewide elections. Bob McDonnell was elected governor with 58.6% of the vote, William T. Bolling was re-elected lieutenant governor with 56.4% of the vote, and Ken Cuccinelli was elected attorney general with 57.2% of the vote.

All three also easily carried Middlesex County. McDonnell received 70.3% of the vote; Bolling received 66.8%; and Cuccinelli received 69%. The three Republicans won in all seven county precincts.

Overall, Mansfield got 77.3% of the vote compared to 22.5% for Crump. Mansfield won in all three Saluda District precincts—359 to 107 in Saluda, 442 to 73 in Urbanna, and 230 to 120 in Harmony Village.

Overall, Harrow got 62.6% of the vote compared to 37.3% for Goforth. Harrow won in both Pinetop District precincts—419 to 258 in Wilton, and 549 to 319 in New Market.
